Unexpected

29 Apr

To tell you the truth, I was not that excited about the Royal Wedding today…until I got to work and started seeing everything that led up to it! I’m sad to say that I’ve had one earbud in my ear throughout the whole day listening in and taking peeks at the ceremony while at work. It was absolutely amazing and actually brought a tear to my eye on a few occasions. What a fairytale it all is! I digress.

On another note, it’s Joachims BIRTHDAY EVE today! Yes, my handsome boyfriend turns the bright old age of 22 tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate with him. As strange as it is, in our 2 years of being a couple we have actually NEVER been with each other for either of our birthdays. What a shame. Thus, tomorrow will make another “first” for us and I can’t wait.

That’s all from my side. Wishing you all a very fun and happy weekend!

I actually took a snapshot from my computer! I had to document this glorious day!

Blog inspiration

28 Apr

Ever since I’ve moved to Sweden, I have found myself reading more and more (amazing) blogs that  have truly inspired me. The ones that I usually find myself reading are usually fashion/interior design/cooking/style blogs all mashed into one. I have decided that I want to add some of these features into my blog so I can find more inspirations to write instead of just giving updates.

Which leads me to my first food/recipe post.

A big thing here in Sweden is to have “fika”- or coffee and sweets break- towards the end of the week. Fortunately, my company provides the sweets for us- ranging anywhere from cinnamon rolls (kanelbullar) to fresh berry cheesecakes. At Joachim’s job, they too have these so-called fikas but they take a more “someone is delegated to bring in a treat on a specific day” approach. Thus, today was Joachim’s turn to bring something so I was the the one who was declared the “head baker” last night. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love to bake-cookies, brownies, cakes, muffins, really anything triggers my baking bliss. I think this stems from memories of my mom and I spending days in the kitchen baking sweets ever since I was little. Even now, we usually spend a day or two in the kitchen around Christmas time and make as many cookies as humanly possible. Which cookies did I make last night, you ask? Of course, my infamous chocolate chip cookies that I wrote about in my blog post yesterday. I managed to snap some pictures on my iPhone of the sweet, little things which will have to suffice until I get a better camera to use for my new **updated** blog.

I am weary of whether or not I should let you in on my SECRET recipe… I guess if I get enough comments about wanting the recipe, I’ll have to put it up 🙂 Enjoy! And try not to salivate too much over the pictures!

I know it’s been a while…

But I really don’t feel like giving an update on our apartment because it’s been a slow-moving process. Actually, last night gave me a bit of hope when I came home and saw Joachim putting up the rods in both closets so he could finally hang his clothes up! (They’ve been living on the floor since the day we moved in). Other than that, things are slowly coming together on the home front. Once we get a more “moved in” look I will upload pictures, I promise!

Other than that, I decided to fill out this fun little questionnaire that I found on one of the many blogs that I read. I thought since I didn’t feel like writing about our apartment, I would fill this out instead 🙂

Age: 22 and (almost) 11 months

Bed size: queen

Chore you hate: vacuuming

Dogs: love them but don’t want one for a while. After having my fair share of dog sitting, I can officially say that waking up at 5 a.m. to watch a dog pee and poop may be the most miserable thing in the world.

Essential start to your day: eating breakfast! I love breakfast. Favorite meal of the day. Sometimes I even have breakfast TWICE in a day! (Breakfast for dinner, duh!)

Favorite color: to wear? White. Decorate? White, teal, light green, yellow

Gold or silver: I like silver if it is for shorter necklaces and rings. Gold for longer chains and fun bracelets.

Height: 5’8″, like Cindy Crawford!

Instruments you play (or have played): Violin, a little piano, the RECORDER!

Job title: English Copywriter (extraordinaire)

Kids: Zero for now.

Live: Helsingborg, Sweden

Mom’s name: Karen but I call her Mommy/Momma

Nickname: depends on whom you ask. To my mom/dad: squirrel, munchkin, munch rat (who knows where that one came from); to my friends: Hads, Haddles, H; to my boyfriend: munchkin, babe, älskling (Swedish for “my love”).

Overnight hospital stay: never.

Pet peeve: When you smile at someone and they don’t smile back. When someone is on the phone and comes to a COMPLETE halt 2 feet in front of you w/o noticing that you are behind them. People walking/riding on the wrong side of the sidewalks. Walk to the right, pass to the left—just like a road people!!

Quote from a movie: if you know anything about me, you know that watching or remembering ANY movie is a bit difficult for me.

Right or left handed: right

Siblings: one! My sister- Lindsay

Time you wake up: when I have to go to work- 6.15-6.30, on the weekends 9-9.30

Underwear: yes, i wear it…sometimes! haha

Vegetables you dislike: I really can’t think of any! If you would’ve asked me this question 10 years ago, that would be a different story!

What makes you run late: nothing! i’m always on time. i hate lateness

X-rays you’ve had done:  quite a few b/c of that legendary fall I took in high school. Next question please!

Yummy food you make: chocolate chip cookies have got to be my claim-to-fame. I’ve also been getting quite good at making Mexican food since I’ve moved to Sweden and found that Mexican is quite the rarity here!

Zoo animal: MONKEYS! Any size, shape or color- I’m not picky!

Also, the weather here has been absolutely amazing lately. I think the sun has been out for 8 or 9 consecutive days (which is almost unheard of here) and the weather has been hovering around the mid-to-upper sixties.

Here are a few pictures that I’ve taken on my iPhone the last few weeks. Hope you all are enjoying life and had a great Easter!

The nice park that is located behind my work! Picture taken today on my lunch break 🙂

The nice Easter egg I got from my work 🙂 Filled with yummy chocolates!
